The existing building is an ‘A’ listed former shipyard building which is currently in use as a Maritime Museum. The brief was to replace the existing roof with a System and structure which provided a water tight enclosure and allowed for movement Of the existing timber structure. A solution utilising a new aluminium rooflight system was agreed with Historic Scotland and carefully designed to be in Keeping with the existing rooflight system while allowing the required flexibility. In addition a new valley gutter structure was installed In leadwork and essential timber repairs were carried out as part of the works. The existing roof was substantially out of alignment and required to be fully levelled and straightened during the project to ensure robust detailing. The works were completed January 2013 after 12 months on site.
